A Crown land reservation is a tool under Section 18(c) of the Public Lands Act, to identify a management intent that will inform and provide direction to potential land users and regulatory bodies as authorized under the Public Lands Act. A reservation is not a disposition, does not grant any rights to public land or rights to access or occupy public land or rights to the resources on the land or under it. The Crown Land Reservations dataset displays reservations under application or active with their associated data attributes allowing users to view and access existing or proposed reservation information that could influence their application if a proposed activity intersects. Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) jointly developed a Landscape Connectivity indicator for the province of Alberta. An Equivalent Connected Area index was selected to measure landscape connectivity and assess changes in connectivity over time. The indicator accounts for three broad land cover types: Upland Forests, Lowland Forests and Grasslands. Landscape connectivity for the three land cover types, and an aggregated value, were calculated for all Hydrological Unit Code 8 (HUC 8) watersheds in Alberta for 2010, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 using four GIS layers: the Human Footprint Inventories and the Wall-to-Wall Vegetation Layer Including “Backfilled” Vegetation created and maintained by the ABMI. the wildlife crossing locations in National Parks provided by Parks Canada, and the Hierarchical Watershed Boundaries created and maintained by the Government of Alberta. The boundaries of the Judicial Districts are defined by the Judicial Districts Regulation, Alberta Regulation 117/2010. The Judicial Districts used in this information product were filed in July 14, 2010 and came into effect on November 1, 2010.

Description

This dataset provides the point locations of horse bands as they were observed during annual aerial surveys. Equine Management Zones are surveyed using a helicopter and horses observed on the landscape during minimum count surveys are reported. Data is stored in file geodatabase, feature class format with associated attributes, meaning each point has a number of horses observed and age class. This dataset simply reports the horses counted on the landscape at one snapshot in time. This data also depicts the flight track flown during the annual aerial minimum counts. Surveys are flown by helicopter once per year when suitable conditions permit. Areas are typically flown by grid pattern within high density areas and over known horse locations. The Parks and Protected Areas dataset contains Parks and Protected Area boundaries for sites administered by the Government of Alberta. National parks, because of their similar intent, are also included. GIS line work representing provincial park/protected area boundaries has been interpreted from written legal descriptions appended to Orders-in-Council granted Royal Assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. In case of discrepancy between the GIS data and the written legal description, the written legal description shall take precedence. The Government of Canada is the authoritative source for GIS boundaries of National Parks. National Park boundaries are included herein for reference, only. GIS line work representing National Park boundaries has been interpreted from written legal descriptions within Schedule 1 of the Canada National Parks Act, and adapted to align with the Alberta Provincial Base Features/Foundational Data collection.
