Presents the findings of an investigation into a workplace fatality in the construction and construction trades sector that occurred in October, 2008. A 48-year old male worker, employed as a painter, was painting the upper gable end of a new house under construction. He was on an unsecured ladder placed on the sloped roof of the garage. Presents the findings of an investigation into a workplace fatality in the construction and construction trades sector that occurred in September, 2007. A 49-year old male worker, employed as a black paper and wire installer, was working with another worker installing tube and clamp scaffolding to complete external work on a new house under construction. The worker was trying to climb on to a 3.2 metre tall level from a 2.3 metre tall section when he fell, struck a cross bar below and landed on the ground. Description

The following STANDATA were issued under the 1997 edition of the Alberta Building Code. STANDATA, which include province-wide variances and interpretations, are specific to the version of the Code that they were issued under. Once a new Code comes into effect, all existing STANDATA are deemed to be obsolete and cannot be used for new construction. They are, however, still valid for evaluating code compliance of existing structures by fire services, insurance companies and by building inspectors in consideration of renovations and retrofits.
