The goal of this K–12 science health and safety resource is to bring together information needed by administrators, planners, teachers, and support staff to help them make sound decisions regarding science safety. The document identifies areas for decision making and action at a variety of levels. It supports planning and action by providing information on safety legislation and standards, health and safety hazards, and example procedures for eliminating or minimizing hazards. The materials in this health and safety resource have been compiled from sources believed to be reliable and accurate and to represent the best of current thinking on the subject. This resource is intended to serve as a starting point for planning good practices, but does not purport to specify the level of technical detail that some users may require or to have anticipated every circumstance where health and safety may be a factor.

In June 2018 the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate released an investigative review examining the lives of twelve youth who died from opioid poisoning between October 2015 and September 2017. The review identified opportunities for system improvements in five areas, with five corresponding recommendations. All five recommendations have been accepted by the Government of Alberta, as outlined in this document.

Le but de cette ressource est de fournir de l’information et des stratégies que les écoles peuvent utiliser pour créer des environnements d’apprentissage accueillants, bienveillants, respectueux et sécuritaires afin de soutenir la résilience et le bienêtre des élèves et du personnel à la suite d’une catastrophe naturelle. Bien que cette ressource soit spécialement conçue pour favoriser le rétablissement après une catastrophe naturelle, une grande partie de l’information et bon nombre de stratégies peuvent être applicables à la planification et à l’intervention lors d’autres types de catastrophes ou de situations d’urgence.
