Description

The Alberta government maintains a central registry of property that has been presumed abandoned by its owner. In these cases, the person or entity that keeps or maintains property is required to report and transfer the abandoned property or its cash equivalent to Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA). Anyone can search for missing property and submit a claim if they have documentation to support their claim. The following Special Notice announces changes to the legislation or administrative policies and practices. These notices are time-specific, and meant to be transitory in nature. The information may eventually be incorporated into other publications such as information circulars or web content.

Description

The Alberta government maintains a central registry of property that has been presumed abandoned by its owner. In these cases, the person or entity that keeps or maintains property is required to report and transfer the abandoned property or its cash equivalent to Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA). Any person with a legal claim to the property can file a claim, within 10 years of TRA receiving the property. The document below explains the process for submitting property to TRA.

Description

The Superintendent of Insurance supervises and regulates provincially incorporated insurance companies and reciprocal insurance exchanges in Alberta. This includes insurance companies or reciprocal insurance exchanges either formed under the Alberta Insurance Act or who have transferred to Alberta such that Alberta is their primary regulator. The Superintendent determines whether they are in sound financial condition and are complying with the legislative requirements and supervisory expectations. To accomplish this, the Superintendent uses a risk‐based supervisory framework to identify imprudent or unsafe business practices within the insurance industry and intervenes on a timely basis, as required. This document describes the principles, concepts and core process used in this supervisory framework.
