This manual contains the standards for operating a licensed family day home agency and for the individual programs working under contract with licensed agencies to provide child care. Family day home care is one of the child care options available to parents in Alberta. Program educators that operate a family day home program can provide child care to a maximum of six children (not including their own) aged 0 to 12 years old in their private residence.

These programs offer you the option of choosing quality child care that is provided in a home-setting. These child care providers are recruited, trained and monitored by a contracted family day home agency to help ensure the safety and well-being of each child. Child care providers that operate an approved family day home program can care for a maximum of six children, including their own.
