This document is a general guide to assist unlicensed home-based child care providers in Alberta and provides recommendations and best-practices for providing child care in a home-based setting. Under the Early Learning and Child Care Act, anyone providing child care for more than six children in addition to their own requires a child care licence issued by the Government of Alberta. The information contained in this document is not intended as legal or professional advice; unlicensed child care providers are solely responsible for ensuring that all applicable laws and standards are followed.

This report by R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. presents the findings of the Year 1 (2017/2018) and Year 2 (2018/2019) evaluations of the initiative. Building Strength, Inspiring Hope: A Provincial Action Plan for Youth Suicide Prevention 2019 – 2024 was released in March 2019. One of the actions the Government of Alberta committed to was to support the co-creation of First Nations and Métis youth suicide prevention graphic novels to provide an awareness resource that is reflective of the experiences of Indigenous youth. Children’s Services partnered with Indigenous Story Studio to create two graphic novels related to suicide prevention and mental health promotion; one reflects a First Nations story and the other a Métis story, both with a focus on wellness. The graphic novels were created through engagement with Indigenous youth across Alberta.
