Building Communities of Care includes two funding components that specifically address the continuing care needs of Indigenous communities: business case development grants and competitive capital grants. This guide provides information about how to apply for business case development grant funding. Funding will support needs assessments and business case development in Indigenous communities where a need for more continuing care capacity has been identified.

On May 27, 2014, the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council received the Age-Friendly Alberta Recognition Award for their commitment to becoming an Age-Friendly Edmonton. Edmonton is the first city in Alberta, and fourth city in Canada, to join the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities.

Strathcona County’s Social Sustainability Framework identified the need for a seniors plan to prepare for shifting demographics. In response, the County developed the Older Adults Plan, approved by Council on June 30, 2009. The plan uses the community’s strength as a base for building an age-friendly and caring community that values and supports its older residents. The plan promotes aging well, with independence, by providing the right programs, services and supports to meet the needs of older adults. On June 6, 2013, Strathcona County was the first community to receive the Age-Friendly Alberta Recognition Award.
