Description

Inter-jurisdictional Recognitions (IJRs) provide flexibility by recognizing standards adopted in different Canadian jurisdictions. These may be issued where there is an agreement between different jurisdictions, where recognizing another jurisdiction’s standard appropriately protects the health and safety of workers in Alberta while also supporting inter-provincial trade and labor mobility. Section 246 of the OHS Code outlines which respiratory protective equipment is allowed to be used at work sites in Alberta. An IJR has been issued that expands what is allowed to be used, which recognizes respiratory protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Description

This Ministerial Order, signed by the Minister of Community and Social Services (CSS), temporarily suspends time limitations set out in legislation in response to the COVID-19 crisis. This order applies to appealing decisions on CSS programs. This Ministerial Order makes sure Albertans can exercise their rights when it is safe, and that those accessing and working with CSS programs have the flexibility they need. Appeals can still be filed. If proper isolation and physical distancing measures can be maintained—and all of the necessary steps taken for the appeal to be filed—a decision can be appealed. Once the period of public health emergency has passed, timelines will again proceed as normal. NOTE: this Ministerial Order is no longer in effect.

This order applies with respect to the employers at a health care facility described in Chief Medical Officer of Health Order 10-2020, issued under section 29 of the Public Health Act, related to: a) work for more than one employer; or b) work at more than one worksite, as described in CMOH Order 10 (see related tab). Note: this order repeals Ministerial Order 22.2020 effective April 24, 2020.
