Description

Promotes innovative design for continuing care homes (which includes long-term care and designated supportive living) and supportive living accommodations that provide continuing care services in Alberta. The overall goal of the resource is to integrate design concepts to facilitate the provision of quality accommodation and health care services within comfortable, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and home-like environments. All newly-constructed continuing care homes larger than 14 spaces that receive public funding must meet the standards outlined in this document. In cases of difference between these documents and national/provincial codes, the most restricted and higher requirements shall govern.

The Food Retail and Foodservice Code consists of model requirements for safeguarding public health and assuring food safety. Working through the Canadian Food Inspection System, government and industry have developed a model regulation, the Food Retail and Foodservices Regulation, as well as this accompanying code of practice for the foodservice and food retail industries. The two documents provide a common set of harmonized food safety standards and operational guidelines that are recognized by government, the food industry and consumers. The Code manual provides practical, user-friendly interpretations and guidance for compliance with legislation.

The Pool Standards set specific technical standards pertaining to water quality and facility operations required under the Public Swimming Pools Regulation. The Standards set requirements for operator education, recirculation, water chemistry and microbiology, water quality monitoring, anti-entrapment, policies and plans related to pool safety and supervision, public education, water quality incident response and general sanitation. Also included are a protocol for management of contaminated public swimming pool water and the calculations for maximum bather load and flow rates through anti-entrapment suction outlets.

The Pool Standards, which are under the Public Swimming Pools Regulation, set out technical requirements for the operation and maintenance of public swimming pools. The Standards apply to public facilities, such as those owned by municipalities or located at hotels, motels, condo and apartment buildings and campgrounds. They do not apply to pools located at single family dwellings. The Standards have been developed in consultation with the pool industry, pool operators and public health officials from Alberta Health Services.

The primary objective of the Minimum Housing and Health Standards is to protect and promote the health and well-being of occupants of rental housing premises and of those who may reside in the immediate vicinity of such premises. It establishes minimum conditions which are essential to good health and which make housing premises safe, sanitary and fit for human habitation. The Housing Regulation and corresponding Minimum Housing and Health Standards govern the conditions and maintenance, the supplied utilities, and the use and occupancy of housing. They are enforced by inspections of housing premises by public health inspectors/executive officers of Regional Health Authorities.
