Description

This guide assists providers of home and community care in meeting the expectations and requirements of Alberta’s Continuing Care Act. It answers questions that providers may have when providing home and community services. The guide describes the Act’s requirements, reporting requirements, and what is involved in the inspection and monitoring of providers who provide home and community care services in Alberta. It also describes what to expect when a provider is in contravention with Alberta Health and enforcement is required.

This guide is to assist operators of continuing care homes and supportive living accommodations to meet the licensing requirements of Alberta’s Continuing Care Act. Getting Started answers the questions prospective operators may have when applying for a licence to provide continuing care services. It describes how to apply for a licence and what is expected of licensed operators. It also describes what is involved in the inspection and monitoring of accommodations and what to expect when a provider is in contravention with Alberta Health and enforcement is required. We encourage prospective operators to schedule a pre-consultation meeting with the Continuing Care Licensing Office to discuss their plans before starting this application process

Alberta’s Family Violence Death Review Committee (the Committee) is an internal arm’s length, multi-disciplinary, cross-sector group reporting directly to the Minister of Community and Social Services. The Committee has the responsibility to review family violence deaths and make recommendations related to program, policy and service delivery for the prevention of family violence. The 2016 Annual Report provides an overview of the Committee’s membership, structure and accountability. The report also explains how case reviews are completed, the processes used to complete the reviews and the resulting recommendations. It also provides a detailed examination of information collected on the 13 family violence incidents that resulted in 15 deaths (perpetrators and victims).
