Description

Since 1998, the Government of Alberta and post-secondary institutions have collaborated to conduct a biannual survey of graduates to assess outcomes such as graduate satisfaction, achievement of personal goals, employment status and compensation. This report presents the findings of the survey of the class of 2003-2004 and investigates graduates’ satisfaction with their post‐secondary educational experience and their employment outcomes approximately two years after graduation.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. This report represents the work of the Foundational Learning and Diversity sub-committee. Within the larger context and framework of A Learning Alberta, the sub-committee focused on identifying priorities for community learning opportunities to better meet the learning needs of adults who are under-represented in existing formal learning opportunities, and looked specifically at adults who live with a disability, low literacy skills, low fluency in English and/or challenges of settlement in a new country.

This report provides a 20-year strategic plan for achieving these goals. Its recommendations expand the direction contained in the Alberta Government's 20-year strategic plan, Today's Opportunities, Tomorrow's Promise. The recommendations recognize that in order to maximize opportunities for Albertans to reach their full potential, the advanced education system must operate within a collaborative framework that expands opportunities, focuses on communities, and reaches out to underrepresented - disadvantaged groups. Through transformational changes, Albertan's youth will become better prepared and adapted to be active citizens and productive workers.
