Contains the responses of the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services to recommendations from the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate for mandatory reviews into child deaths. The Child and Youth Advocate Act provides the Advocate with the authority to conduct investigative reviews. The Advocate may investigate systemic issues arising from the death of a child who was receiving child intervention services within two years of their death. The Act requires each ministry to respond publicly within 75 days of the release of a report.

In September 2021, the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) released the Strengthening Foundations report, which reviewed the circumstances of nine young people who died over a fourteen-month period in 2018 and 2019 and who had experienced similar challenges in service provision. The report provides two recommendations to address the limitations in assessments, information sharing and collaboration among service providers. This document contains the response of the Ministry of Community and Social Services to these recommendations.

Albertans with MS identify a number of barriers to living life to its fullest, including difficulty accessing the right services and supports. Barriers extend beyond the health sector to include issues of income supports, social services, and housing. This report makes five recommendations that will help people with MS get the care they need, when they need it, throughout their lives.

In November 1999, the Long Term Care Review Policy Advisory Committee released the report Healthy Aging: New Directions for Care. The Committee report and additional public input and suggestions were thoroughly reviewed by Alberta Health and Wellness, and in April 2000 the government released its response to the report. Entitled Strategic Directions and Future Actions: Healthy Aging and Continuing Care in Alberta, the report presented a government strategy to develop an improved, sustainable and affordable continuing care system for Albertans. This report, Tracking Progress, shows the progress to date in each of the strategic directions set out in the government’s response, and summarizes future plans to keep continuing care reform moving forward.

Alberta’s population is aging. Preparing the continuing care system now to address the current and emerging challenges is a priority. In November, 1997, the Minister of Health appointed a Long Term Care Policy Advisory Committee to conduct a comprehensive two year study of long term care services in the province. Their work resulted in a three part report Healthy Aging: New Directions for Care, containing a vision, principles and 50 recommendations for building on the strengths of the existing system and proposing innovative approaches for meeting future needs and demands. Upon release of the report, a public consultative process, using a web-based survey, was undertaken to gather responses and feedback on the recommendations. Over 100 service providers, operators of continuing care facilities, professional and provincial associations, provincial and regional health authorities and the public responded. Appendix A contains a listing of all respondents.
