Alberta child care accreditation promotes excellence in child care settings and helps families choose the best care for their children. The accreditation standards are based on current research and leading practices focusing on outcomes related to children, staff, families, and communities. Accreditation has been available to licensed day care centres and approved family day homes since 2004; and was expanded in 2009 to include licensed out-of-school care programs.

La certification des services de garde d’enfants de l’Alberta favorise l’excellence dans les milieux de garde d’enfants et aide les familles à choisir les meilleurs services pour leurs enfants. Les normes de certification sont fondées sur les recherches et pratiques exemplaires actuelles qui mettent l’accent sur les résultats concernant les enfants, le personnel, les familles et les collectivités. La certification est offerte aux services de garde agréés et aux services de garde en milieu familial approuvés depuis 2004; elle a été élargie en 2009 pour inclure les programmes de garde parascolaires autorisés.

Albertans who participated in the Together We Raise Tomorrow engagement provided information regarding what is working well in their communities, and what additional steps might be taken to develop an easily accessible system of early childhood development supports. Their responses indicate that they see early childhood development as a shared responsibility and are ready to help realize the vision for an integrated system where there are high quality supports and services that are well understood and accessible to all families. Their input is invaluable, and the results from the engagement will support government and communities to take action to improve services for young children and their family. This summary document identifies common themes and provides a high-level overview of the feedback received.
