The purpose of the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy (ATIS) is to position Alberta as an internationally-recognized technology and innovation hub that attracts talent, business and job-creating investment from across Canada and around the world. The strategy sets out the Alberta government's research and commercialization priorities, and includes a vision, goals, outcomes and key initiatives to grow the technology sector and diversify Alberta's economy.

Research has shown that in Alberta, the amount of phosphorus in streams increases with agricultural intensity in watersheds. The goal of the Alberta Phosphorus Watershed Project was to determine if wide-spread adoption of environmental beneficial management practices would improve water quality at the watershed scale, as well as to develop the Alberta Phosphorus Management Tool. This report supplements the previously published 2013–2017 Alberta Phosphorus Watershed Project progress report by summarizing the results and progress of the Alberta Phosphorus Watershed Project from 2018–2020.

Description

Derived Ecosite Phase (DEP) is a digital and spatial representation of ecological sites and phases in those areas of Alberta where both Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) and lidar are available. AVIE and a lidar-derived slope position were created by Agriculture and Forestry. Rules used to classify the data were developed by Environment and Parks. DEP v2.0 includes updated AVI, new lidar and an Alberta Wetlands Classification System field.
