This plan proposes a comprehensive framework for action to reduce collisions in our province. It is also a blueprint as the Alberta government works towards meeting targets set out in the national strategy Canada Roads Safety Vision 2010. The Plan aims to make Alberta's roads safe.

Road safety is a serious issue in Alberta and around the world. The impact on individuals and their families is devastating. And the overall cost to Alberta society is estimated to be in the range of $4.7 billion a year. At the request of Alberta Transportation Minister Ed Stelmach, a review of Alberta's traffic safety initiative was launched in February 2004. The objective was to recommend the best way to coordinate strategies, set goals and allocate resources to address road safety issues.
