Description

Administrative penalties are one of the enforcement tools that Alberta Environment administers as part of its Compliance Assurance and Enforcement Program. In the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, sections 237 and 238 provide the department with the statutory authority to establish administrative penalties for specified contraventions of the Act and its regulations. Administrative penalties are used in accordance with, and to uphold, the department’s philosophy to provide firm but fair enforcement of the environmental legislation in a timely and consistent manner.
