Description

This statistic describes headcounts (unique learners) by institution and academic year within Alberta's publicly-funded post-secondary education system. Headcounts represent the number of students enrolled, and are unique to each level reported, therefore summing up multiple values to "combine" values may lead to double counting, as students can be counted in multiple rows. The data tables presented are related to enrolments in approved programs at publicly-funded post-secondary institutions within Alberta. Separate data files exist focusing on the system level, or for subsets that focus on either international or self-identified Indigenous learners.

Description

The set of statistics in these datasets describe the Full Load Equivalent (FLE) by each institution and academic year within Alberta's publicly funded post-secondary education system. FLE is a measure used to allow for comparable calculations across different institutions, across different programs. The FLE is measured by taking the load of the learner enrolled (instructional hours + practicum hours) and dividing by the full load of that program. This results in a comparable metric to be able to use across the system. The FLE calculation is consistent for every institution and program. The data tables presented are related to enrolments in approved programs at publicly funded post-secondary institutions within Alberta. Separate data files exist focusing on the system level, or for subsets that focus on either international or self-identified Indigenous learners.

Separate data files exist focusing on the system level, or for subsets that focus on either international or self-identified Indigenous learners.

Description

This dataset provides the number of program completions in Alberta's publicly-funded post-secondary system by field of study and by academic year, from 2004/05 to 2013/14. Program completions are instances where students complete an approved credential program (certificates, diplomas, and degrees). Field of study is reported using CIP (Classification of Institutional Programs) 2011 Code values assigned to each program or specialization. CIP is used to classify like programs based on the instructional content of the program or specialization.

This Alberta Official Statistic describes the Unique Student measure in relation to the number of students attending an approved program at a publicly funded post-secondary institution. The values in each row are related to the unique students at that level, and adding multiple values may lead to double counting students in multiple rows. This dataset will show the Unique Student measure by each institution and sector by Academic Year. Sectors are broken down into six categories of publicly funded post-secondary institutions in Alberta as defined in legislation: (1) Comprehensive Academic and Research Institutions, (2) Baccalaureate and Applied Studies Institutions, (3) Comprehensive Community Institutions, (4) Polytechnical Institutions, (5) Independent Academic Institutions, and (6) Specialized Arts and Culture Institutions.

The Program Completion values are related to instances where students complete an approved credential program (Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees) within Alberta's publicly funded post-secondary system. This dataset provides the breakdown of these program completions by sector and institution. Sectors are broken down into six categories of publicly funded post-secondary institutions in Alberta as defined in legislation: (1) Comprehensive Academic and Research Institutions, (2) Baccalaureate and Applied Studies Institutions, (3) Comprehensive Community Institutions, (4) Polytechnical Institutions, (5) Independent Academic Institutions, and (6) Specialized Arts and Culture Institutions.

The FLE is measured by taking the load of the student enrolled (instructional hours + practicum hours) and dividing by the full load of that program. This results in a comparable metric to be able to use across the system. The FLE calculation is consistent for every institution and program. Field of study is reported using the CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs) 2011 code value assigned to each program and specialization. CIP codes are used to classify like programs based on the instructional content of the program/specializations. This dataset will show the FLE measure by each 2 digit CIP code by Academic Year.
