Description

This annual publication provides a summary of the performance Alberta municipalities through a number of financial and non-financial indicators. The indicators evaluate the current and long-term finances of a municipality, examine whether a municipality is investing in maintaining infrastructure critical to the health and safety of residents, and assess the ability of the municipality to provide services desired by the community.

Environmental assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed Stone Creek Resorts Inc. Gondola project. The proposal is to construct and operate an aerial passenger ropeway system along with a day lodge, trail networks, viewing platforms, suspension bridge and associated utility services infrastructure as part of the Silvertip Integrated Village Resort. The proposed passenger aerial gondola would connect the base area of the Silvertip Resort to an upper terminal on the summit ridge of Mount Lady MacDonald, via a mid-station integrated with the Silvertip Resort Village. Flood maps are created by combining hydraulic model results with high-accuracy ground information. Field surveys and LiDAR remote sensing are used to collect river and floodplain elevations, channel cross section data, bridge and culvert information, and flood berm details. A hydrology assessment using recorded and historic flow measurements is typically used to estimate river flows for a wide range of possible open water floods with different chances of occurring each year. When appropriate, an ice jam frequency analysis is undertaken. All this information is used to build a hydraulic model of a river system, which is calibrated using highwater marks and aerial imagery from past floods to ensure that results for the different flood flows being mapped are reasonable. Flood inundation maps show areas at risk for different sized floods, including ice jam floods in some communities. Reports on a Carbon Capture and Storage project to remove carbon dioxide from the process gas streams of the three hydrogen-manufacturing units which are a part of the Scotford Upgrader infrastructure. The Scotford Upgrader is owned by the Athabasca Oil Sands Project, a joint venture operated by Shell and owned by Shell, Chevron Canada Corporation, and Marathon Oil Sands LP. The Upgrader is part of Shell’s Scotford facility located northeast of Edmonton.

Description

The NRN product is distributed in the form of thirteen provincial or territorial datasets and consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and three punctual entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Toll Point) with which is associated a series of descriptive attributes such as, among others: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number Of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, Exit Number. The development of the NRN was realized by means of individual meetings and national workshops with interested data providers from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments. In 2005, the NRN edition 2.0 was alternately adopted by members from the Inter-Agency Committee on Geomatics (IACG) and the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). The NRN content largely conforms to the ISO 14825 from ISO/TC 204.

The Cold Lake oil sands area - Township 56 to 69, Range 1 to 11, west of the 4th Meridian, falls within the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan (LARP). As part of Alberta's Land-use Framework, LARP was developed in 2012 to set the stage for robust growth, vibrant communities and a healthy environment within the region. One of its implementation objectives is to balance the economic development of oil sands and impacts on the ecosystem and environment. This is to be achieved through enhanced science-based monitoring for improved characterization of the environment and to collect the information necessary to understand cumulative effects. Landsat multispectral imagery for 2005 and 2006 and land use and land cover classification data derived from 2006 were used to produce this dataset. As part of Alberta's Land-use Framework, LARP was developed in 2012 to set the stage for robust growth, vibrant communities and a healthy environment within the region. In 2014, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) initiated a Play-Based Regulation (PBR) pilot project as a step towards implementation of the Unconventional Regulatory Framework. One of the goals of the PBR pilot is to encourage companies in the unconventional play area to work together on plans for surface development to minimize the numbers of facilities and surface impacts. This dataset is one of a series created using earth observation imagery to assess surface change caused by energy exploration. The PBR area extends from Twp. 52, Rge. 7, W 5th Mer. to Twp. 70, Rge. 5, W 6th Mer., covering the towns of Edson, Fox Creek, Mayerthorpe, Whitecourt, Swan Hills, and Valleyview.
