The AER is approved by an auditor and submitted to Infrastructure Canada.

Alberta’s municipal councillors have a strong record of public service to their communities. As a public servant, you are responsible for upholding the public interest ahead of any private interests you may have. The Municipal Government Act (MGA) describes pecuniary interest and sets out the procedures you must follow if a matter in which you have a pecuniary interest comes up at a council meeting or a committee of council meeting. These rules are designed to protect the public interest while ensuring that your ability to work is not adversely affected by your election to council.

The project involved research, developing documentation, training municipal staff, and completing an implementation manual. This quarterly newsletter was sent municipalities to keep them updated on recommendations, training, and events and approaching deadlines.

Description

In Alberta, equalized assessment is the means of comparing property wealth in a uniform manner for all municipalities. Alberta uses an ad valorem assessment and tax system where property taxes are based on wealth and wealth is measured by the value of property expressed as an assessment. Equalizing an assessment is simply a process of adjusting each municipality's taxable assessment to a common year in accordance with current legislation and policy. The equalization process results in a common provincial assessment base that is used to determine the amount of requisition for each requisitioning body.
