The purpose of the Alberta Scaling Permitting Program is primarily to provide the ground rules under which the training and permitting of timber scalers shall occur in Alberta. Timber scaling is conducted for the purpose of providing harvest information to the department of Agriculture and Forestry, and must be done by a person holding a valid scaler's permit. In addition, a valid scaler's permit is also required for any person conducting check scaling on behalf of Agriculture and Forestry. This document defines the requirements for course instructors, course content and duration, obtaining and retaining a scalers permit, and examination procedures.

Under Alberta's Disposal of Dead Animals Regulation of the Animal Health Act, composting is one option for disposing of livestock mortalities. Composting in a properly-managed system can prevent livestock disease transmission, protect air and water quality and reduce the nuisance of carcasses and bones.

The Peace River Parkland Natural Subregion accounts for only 0.5 per cent of the province and is characterized by gently rolling cultivated plains and steep south-facing grassy and forested slopes along the Peace River and its tributaries. Vegetation is a mosaic and dominated by forests of aspen and white spruce, wetlands and small remnant grasslands on the uplands, and dry grasslands and aspen forests on valley slopes. This guide represents the analysis of 378 plots described in the Peace River Parkland subregion. These 378 plots represent 73 observed and described plant community types. An analysis of successional changes in the presence and absence of grazing disturbance for the grasslands (Appendix 1) and aspen (Appendix 2) dominated community types for the Peace region is also outlined in Appendices 1 and 2. Description

The Alpine Natural Subregion is a land of mountains, glaciers and snowfields extending north to south along the Continental Divide. Steeply inclined to vertical bedrock exposures, short, cold summers, strong winds and high snowfalls limit extensive tree growth in favour of low growing shrubs and herbs in sheltered areas. The alpine is a complex of plant associations dominated by dwarf shrub and herbaceous vegetation and/or lichen tundra occurring at elevations above 1900 m at the northern extent of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta in Jasper National Park and 2150m at the south in Waterton Lakes National Park. This guide represents the analysis of over 970 plots described in the Alpine Natural Subregion that were subsequently split into 8 ecological sites and 52 plant community types. The dominant plant species, canopy cover, soils and environmental conditions are outlined for each type.
