In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. Increasing participation rates of under-represented groups such as rural and Aboriginal Albertans was seen as a critical component to the success of this initiative. This document was prepared to support the review process by providing a context for consideration of key issues as they relate to post-secondary education in rural Alberta.
