Description

The NRN product is distributed in the form of thirteen provincial or territorial datasets and consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and three punctual entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Toll Point) with which is associated a series of descriptive attributes such as, among others: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number Of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, Exit Number. The development of the NRN was realized by means of individual meetings and national workshops with interested data providers from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments. In 2005, the NRN edition 2.0 was alternately adopted by members from the Inter-Agency Committee on Geomatics (IACG) and the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). The NRN content largely conforms to the ISO 14825 from ISO/TC 204.

The purpose of this evaluation was to determine the effectiveness of six low-temperature, low-VOC traffic paint formulations during cold weather application.

A study of SRPM’s was undertaken to determine the effectiveness and durability of two types of markers.

In 1994, the department established a large scale Rout and Seal crack seal evaluation program to assess the field performance of eight different sealant products. The products evaluated include the following: Beram 195, Elsro 1191, Bakor 590-13A, Koch 9030, Hydrotech 6160, Crafco 522, Husky 1611, and Super­ Flex 100. Evaluations of the various sealant products commenced in 1994/95 and were finalized in 2002.

Asphalt concrete pavement mix type selection protocols were developed by Alberta Transportation in the late 1980s. Several significant developments in pavements engineering occurred subsequent to the initial development and implementation of these protocols. This report presents the results of a research study carried out to validate the current mix type selection criteria. The results of this study were used by Alberta Transportation to produce a Design Bulletin in July 2003 titled Revisions to Pavement Design Manual for the Selection of ACP Mix Types and Asphalt Binders.

Paint is the most common material used for transverse pavement markings (crosswalks, stop bars, traffic arrows, etc.), as it is relatively inexpensive, easy to apply and dries quickly after application. However, it requires periodic remarking due to the deterioration caused by traffic, snow removal equipment and environmental forces. A project was conducted to determine the effectiveness of two types of alternative pavement marking materials (System 400 & PolyCarb Mark-55.4) to find more durable pavement marking materials.
