This report presents the findings of the survey of 2016-2017 academic year graduates from private vocational training institutions.

The report is part of the Benefits to Post-Secondary Education Project, led by Alberta Advanced Education in partnership with Statistics Canada, that is intended to fill information gaps related to the labour market outcomes of Alberta’s post-secondary graduates.

A January 2015 decision of the Supreme Court of Canada recognized a Charter-protected right to strike when collective agreement negotiations break down, while also acknowledging that many employees in the public sector provide essential services and the maintenance of these essential public services during a work stoppage is a proper concern for governments and public sector employers. In September 2015, Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour initiated a focused consultation process to gather feedback around an alternative approach to dispute resolution for those parts of the broad public sector subject to compulsory arbitration and not permitted to strike and lockout. This resource presents the results of this consultation.

It supports institutional planning and system alignment, and identifies broader strategic directions and policy outcomes.

A January 2015 decision of the Supreme Court of Canada recognized a Charter-protected right to strike when collective agreement negotiations break down. This decision led the Government of Alberta to re-evaluate the compulsory interest arbitration provisions in the Post-secondary Learning Act and the Regulation. In October and November 2015, Advanced Education consulted with academic staff associations, graduate student associations, non-academic staff associations, and public post-secondary institutions on how to go about implementing the right to strike. This resource presents the results of this consultation.
