WHMIS, which stands for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, is Canada's national hazard communication system for hazardous products in the workplace. It applies to suppliers, importers, and distributors of hazardous products that are sold in or imported into Canada and intended for use, handling or storage in Canadian workplaces, as well as to the employers and workers who use those products.

In 2017 the Government of Alberta began a review of its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) system. This includes a review of Alberta’s enforcement and prevention activities as well as the OHS Act. This discussion paper provides a brief overview of the purpose of the review and the current state of the OHS system. It then outlines three broad topics which the review will focus on: responsibility, worker engagement, and prevention. Items for consideration are included for each of these topics. The discussion paper ends with information on how to become involved in the review.
