Description

Presents the results of a focused inspections and awareness campaign for arena workers. The purpose of the focused inspections was to educate arena operators as to their responsibilities in ensuring that employers working at their site comply with the OHS Act, Regulation and Code, and to education and enhance workers' awareness of their responsibilities and rights under the legislation.

The purpose of the focused inspections was to raise awareness of the known workplace hazards in this industry and to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code. The program helped the employers to address the non-compliance issues identified by the OHS officers and implement the required corrective measures.

As of June 1, 2018, all employers in Alberta are required to implement a violence prevention plan (VPP). To ensure workers at gas stations and convenience stores are better protected from the violent incidents associated with these work sites, their employers must implement additional VPP components, as well as put in place mandatory fuel pre-pay. This guide is designed to help employers in the fuel and convenience store sector understand what Alberta's legislation requires for the additional VPP components for sector. It also includes suggested best practices, which are not legislated requirements but which could help employers improve their workers' health and safety.
