Description

This statistic describes headcounts (unique learners) by institution and academic year within Alberta's publicly-funded post-secondary education system. Headcounts represent the number of students enrolled, and are unique to each level reported, therefore summing up multiple values to "combine" values may lead to double counting, as students can be counted in multiple rows. The data tables presented are related to enrolments in approved programs at publicly-funded post-secondary institutions within Alberta. Separate data files exist focusing on the system level, or for subsets that focus on either international or self-identified Indigenous learners.

Description

Each year, the Government of China provides a number of scholarships enabling residents of Alberta to study in China. Alberta high school graduates, post-secondary students and scholars wishing to participate in Chinese language studies, academic study at the undergraduate or graduate level, or research are all eligible. The language of instruction is primarily Chinese, but a limited number of programs are offered in English. The program may also sponsor and recommend remedial Chinese language studies for applicants who are not applying for the Chinese language study program.

Includes information on two funding opportunities available through the Heritage Preservation Partnership Program. The Roger Soderstrom Scholarship was established to help advance historic preservation in Alberta by assisting student research. The Bob Etherington Heritage Conservation Fund aims to help develop skills in heritage conservation in Alberta by providing financial support to eligible individuals who wish to attend training and eligible organizations who wish to deliver training in the conservation of historic buildings.

The final report from the Research Commercialization Working Group (RCWG) was developed by experts from academia and industry, together with government. The RCWG’s mandate was to deliver on Goal 3 of Alberta 2030: Support Innovation and Commercialization, and provide input to the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy. Recommended action items within the report include: coordinating government funding on RCWG priority research sectors; developing an intellectual property (IP) framework that aligns IP policies, raises awareness of IP, and creates collaboration/hand-off opportunities to industry; and convening ecosystem players regularly and often to enhance research partnership potential.
