Description

Describes an Alberta Transportation one-year pilot to allow tow truck operators to increase their visibility and safety while working on Alberta highways. A Registrar's exemption will be issued to permit the optional use of blue lights, in addition to existing amber lights, on tow trucks and supporting vehicles during the pilot project. Results of the pilot project will help determine the best use of lights to increase safety for roadside workers.

Alberta Transportation and the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement in an effort to maximize the productivity for well servicing rig operations while still ensuring a high level of safe operations on the highway. Under strict circumstances, conditional exemptions may be granted to CAODC service rig members through an Oil and Gas Well Service Rig Permit which provides regulatory provisions with respect to driver licence concessions and annual program requirements.
