Description

Post-Secondary Transition Rate (4 year) is the percentage of students in the grade 10 cohort who have entered a post-secondary-level program at an Alberta post-secondary institution or registered in an Alberta apprenticeship program within four years of entering grade 10, adjusted for attrition. An estimate of out-of-province post-secondary enrollment is applied based on the numbers of funded Alberta students attending post-secondary institutions out of province.

A student cohort is a group of students who are registered in a specific grade at a public, separate, Francophone, charter, provincial, federal or accredited private school. Service regions are defined areas of the province that provide a framework for better understanding local factors relating to learning and programming at a regional level. In consultation with stakeholders, regional boundaries were drawn based on Dissemination Area (DA) boundaries and the area generally served by Comprehensive Community Institutions.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. This discussion document was developed to focus on obtaining stakeholder feedback on how to foster innovation in Alberta. It provides a conceptual definition of innovation that expands beyond research and development activities, as well as providing a draft set of principles to potentially guide innovation in Alberta.
