Together We Raise Tomorrow is a province-wide initiative to support the well-being, safety, security, education and health of all children in Alberta. Over the next year, government and communities will work together to build on the principles of Alberta’s Social Policy Framework to create a children’s charter, a poverty reduction strategy and move forward with the Alberta Approach to Early Childhood Development. These conversations will bring Albertans together to identify local solutions and supports that will fit the diversity of children and families in the province.

To build research capacity in the areas of housing and homelessness, Alberta Human Services facilitated a partnership between the Alberta Interagency Council on Homelessness and Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research to develop a provincial housing and homelessness research strategy. The resulting research strategy was meant to generate and mobilize evidence to inform priorities, decisions and recommendations relevant to A Plan for Alberta: Ending Homelessness in 10 Years. It included a research agenda and an implementation framework.

On June 19, 2013, the Government of Alberta launched Together We Raise Tomorrow, a public engagement on how to better support the well-being, safety, security, education, and health of all children in Alberta. The engagement formed part of the province's year-long focus on working with communities to improve the quality of life for children and families, including the passage of the Children First Act in May 2013. This focused work on issues affecting children aligns directly with the goals Albertans identified under Alberta's Social Policy Framework: reducing inequality, protecting vulnerable people, enabling collaboration and partnerships, and creating a person-centred system of high quality services. Public engagement under Together We Raise Tomorrow took place from June 19 to October 31, 2013. In 2012/2013, Alberta Human Services, Persons with Developmental Disabilities Program (PDD program) contracted Vecova Centre for Disability Services and Research (Vecova) to conduct a survey of families/guardians of persons with developmental disabilities on their satisfaction with the services received from PDD program and their funded agencies. These survey responses provide PDD program with feedback regarding program quality, areas of concern, and direction for improvement. These results also provide key performance measures for the program.
