Description

Affidavits are documents containing statements that are verified by the oath or affirmation of the person making those statements. An affidavit must be authorized by legislation (a statute or a regulation) which permits or requires the proof of certain facts by way of an affidavit. Statutory declarations are documents containing statements that are verified by the solemn declaration of the person making those statements. A statutory declaration is made pursuant to the Canada Evidence Act or the Alberta Evidence Act and is used in situations where there is no legislative authority for an affidavit. Both acts prescribe the following form for a statutory declarations. If you are unclear as to the uses, format, and/or completion of an affidavit or statutory declaration, please consult legal counsel.

By creating and widely distributing this Domestic Violence Handbook, the Alberta government is demonstrating its commitment to eradicating family violence. Alberta’s dedication to ending family violence is ongoing, and as such, this Handbook will be electronically up-dated as the need arises to keep abreast of new developments in family violence research and programming.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) is the federal legislation that replaces the Young Offenders Act (YOA) in April 2003. This pocket guide is designed to summarize the changes which will be brought about with the implementation of the new Act. Provisions of the new Act which do not represent a change to existing legislation may also be included to provide context. The key components of the YCJA are presented in eleven sections which correspond to the divider tabs in the pocket guide. An additional sectionshows the highlights of the new YJA.
