Description

This dataset provides the point locations of horse bands as they were observed during annual aerial surveys. Equine Management Zones are surveyed using a helicopter and horses observed on the landscape during minimum count surveys are reported. Data is stored in file geodatabase, feature class format with associated attributes, meaning each point has a number of horses observed and age class. This dataset simply reports the horses counted on the landscape at one snapshot in time. This data also depicts the flight track flown during the annual aerial minimum counts. Surveys are flown by helicopter once per year when suitable conditions permit. Areas are typically flown by grid pattern within high density areas and over known horse locations. However, since the species decline was documented in the mid-1990s a concerted effort has been made to monitor the population each spring. This report summarizes results of Greater sage-grouse habitat assessments conducted in 2023.

The technical report summarizes temporal trends occurring for select water quality parameters within a 15-year dataset of water quality information collected during the Irrigation District Water Quality (IDWQ) program. Temporal trends at the regional and sample site scale were conducted to determine overall change in water quality parameters and identify possible areas of concern. This information is critical for enabling the agriculture and irrigation sectors to be proactive in addressing environmental concerns, food safety and demonstrating stewardship of Alberta’s land and water resources.
