The purpose of this manual is to ensure Forestry Division personnel and industry: are familiar with current Crown land/forest management herbicide use regulations and policies; take an active role in ensuring herbicide use on Crown land is in accordance with policies and requirements; recognize obvious and important violations of provincial legislation governing herbicide use on crown land; are comfortable performing basic herbicide inspections; and are aware of incident reporting mechanisms and follow-up.

Government requires grazing disposition holders to employ appropriate range management principles and practices to ensure a healthy, functional rangeland ecosystem is maintained on public lands for present and future generations. To this end, a stewardship assessment is required for each grazing disposition, with stewardship defined as the degree to which the grazing disposition holder is aware of and understands the four principles of range management and applies them to the stewardship of their grazing disposition.

This procedures manual has been developed by the Farmers' Advocate Office to guide practice review committees through the review process so all parties receive a fair review, and to provide consistency from one review to another.

This workbook was developed to get feedback from stakeholders, including residents, businesses, communities and other governments, on the key aspects of the council's advice. The workbook focuses on the four key areas for which the Alberta government sought the council's advice. Each section of the workbook gives an overview of the advice requested from the council, highlights some of its learnings and summarizes its recommendations to government.
