English language learners first learned to speak, read and/or write a language other than English and require English language instruction and supports to participate fully in the learning experiences provided in Alberta schools.

This guide to implementation is intended to support the Grade 7 portion of the German Language and Culture Nine-year Program (the program of studies). It was developed primarily for teachers, yet it includes information that may be useful for administrators and other stakeholders in their efforts to plan for and implement the new German program of studies. The grade level samples provided in Chapter 8 are designed to give teachers a clearer idea of what the outcomes in the program of studies mean and to offer some sample ideas on how to teach to those outcomes. The samples are not meant to be read or used chronologically. The activities cover a range of degrees of difficulty, and it is expected that teachers will adapt the samples in this guide to reflect the needs and interests of their students.

This resource is a synthesis of current research and an introduction to the theory and practice of differentiated instruction within an Alberta context. The resource is organized into three parts. Part 1 offers general information and strategies for differentiating instruction. Part 2 provides ideas for differentiating learning and teaching for specific student groups, including English as a second language learners, students with disabilities and students who are gifted. Although these groups of students will benefit from the same process and strategies used to differentiate instruction for other students in the classroom, planning effective instruction to meet their specific needs requires additional considerations. Part 3 offers practical, curriculum-specifi c ideas and strategies for differentiating learning and teaching within four core subject areas

La ressource se divise en trois parties. La Partie 1 offre des renseignements généraux et des stratégies se rapportant à la différenciation pédagogique, incluant la raison et la façon, le pourquoi et le comment. La Partie 2 propose des idées pour la différenciation de l’apprentissage et de la différenciation pédagogique pour des groupes particuliers d’élèves, incluant les élèves qui apprennent l’anglais comme langue seconde, ceux qui suivent des cours de francisation, ceux qui ont des besoins spéciaux en éducation et ceux qui sont doués.
